(Cards from The
Wheel of the Year Tarot)

@KaremIBarratt

Rider-Waite style cards: 8 of cups, 5 of cups, 4 of swords, 3 of cups, 6 of cups, 3 of cups, Temperance, The Star, 1 of cups.Cards used here: Wheel of the Year Tarot.

Preparation: cards, pencil and paper, camera, comfortable chair, table, quite place, uninterrupted time (at least 25 minutes). You may wish to record the visualization. Just remember to leave enough empty spaces to allow yourself to visualize and answer the questions.

Visualization:

1) Sit comfortably. Close your eyes. Breathe deeply. Feel the air pass your nostrils, hit the back of your throat, fill your lungs and expand your belly. Inhale to the count of 6, hold to the count of 4 and exhale to the count of 6, ending each exhale with a little blow. Repeat 3 times. No place your attention on your feet, and move it up your legs, knees, thighs, lower belly, back, chest, arm, neck, face, eyes, back of the head, fore head, top of the head.

2) Place the 8 of cups on the table. This represents the person who walked away from the relationship. See how the figure seems to be deeply lost within himself (or herself). Whatever reasons this person had to live are his own. There was a need that could no longer be fulfilled by the situation he was in, a need born from his ego and his soul and that really has nothing to do with the outer world.

3) Breathe in deeply and imagine that person and yourself, tied by an energy cord around the solar plexus (a few inches under the heart). Gently, pulled the cord from his side and then pull the cord from your side. If you feel the need, take this time to forgive this person that willingly or not cause you. See the person turn around and leave. Imagine a plaster made of purple light and place it where the cord was on your body. Breathe in deeply a few times.

4) Now, place the five of cups. Here we honour your pain. No matter what reasons that person might of have to walk away, nothing changes the fact that it hurt you. At the moment you may feel you have lose any chance for true love; that all the emotions and time invested in this relationship was wasted; that there may be something wrong with you. Imagine your pain as small animal, a bunny, a guinea pig, a puppy a kitten. Hold it in your arms. Feel it trembling and looking around in fear. Soothe this small creature. What words will you tell it to comfort it, to bring it hope, to make it feel good about itself?

5) Place the four of swords on the table. This represent a time of retreat to allow healing. Sometimes we jump to fast into a new relationship, without giving ourselves time to truly heal. This should be a time to get to know yourself better. Take the pencil and paper. Write down what lessons can you take from this experience? What have you found out about yourself because of this heart break? Do no edit your answers. If they are too harsh or sour, accept it and then ask yourself what you could do to move on from these emotions. What can you do in this time of healing for yourself? What new opportunities can you see?

6) Now place the 6 of cups. This is a card of acceptance. For sometime you’ll find yourself looking back at what it was, and wondering about what could have been. This is fine, for a little while, but the card is a reminder that we can get lost in two periods in time that do not exist: the past is gone; the future’s still a mist. Imagine yourself walking in a beautiful park, with a winding river in the middle. As you walk, you see a couple and remember an event of your former romance. See pass in the water, like a movie, and let it go. Now find something in the park where to fix your attention: a flower, a tree, a group of kids playing. See them as detailed as possible. Looking back at the river, see a fleeting, subtle image of the future you once imagined. See it pass and again focus your attention somewhere in the park, seeing it as vividly as possible.

7) Place the 3 of cups on the table. Now see yourself surrounded by friends, family and neighbours. See yourself carrying out different activities, having a good time with other people, celebrating, laughing. Maybe you can see yourself doing something for other and helping bring a little life into their life. Imagine you are in a communal celebration of sorts, a concert in the park with fireworks, seating on a mat with a group of friends, while everyone around you is having a wonderful time. Can you hear the music? Can you see the fireworks? What to you smell? What can you touch? Now stop on you. How do you feel in this image? Feel the emotions in the knowledge that they are real, that these image is real and that you will get in touch with the joy within you once more, because whatever your aware of it or not, that joy is there, in the inside, waiting for your time to embrace it.

8) Under the first row of cards, place now the Temperance card. Temperance is associated with harmony and healing. Whatever your concept of Spirit maybe, this card reminds you that, just as your are healing in a conscious manner, there is a force healing the pain too, filling you with strength and hope to get you on your feet again. Take a few seconds to imagine this force in the form that is more meaningful for you and thank it for its loving aid.

9) Next to Temperance, place now the Star. This is a card of hope, of dreams, of opening ourselves to inspiration and beauty and joy. See yourself as the figure in the card. Feel the water, the land, the cool air of the night. Feel yourself beautiful and strong and hopeful. See a ray from the Star above touch you and paint you in light. Stay like a this a few minutes, opening yourself to any inspiration that maybe granted. Write down any message and reflect on it later on.

10) Lastly, place the Ace of cups next to the Star. This is you, making a commitment to yourself, to treat yourself gently in the time of healing, to keep yourself receptive to the beauty of life, and, when the time comes, to unlock the doors of your heart to romantic love, in a trusting and confident manner. Now, with all your conviction, say the following affirmation out loud: “The past is done with, the future is a mist. I stand in the present with open mind, open heart and an openness to life an all its wonderful possibilities.”

11) Breath in deeply and stay in the silence for a few minutes.

12) Now, take a picture of the cards. Develop it or printed and put it in a place that you can see every day. For the next 21 days, once a day, you are going to tell yourself the story of this girl/boy (you) in the third person: how the lover left for reason of his/her own, how the girl suffered but then found the courage to heal herself, how during this process there were days that were easier than other, but she always found the power to live in the present and how, at the end, she found joy, affection and laughter once more in her life. End the story with the affirmation, but now in the third-person form. Revise the questions and answers you wrote in step 5 and see how can they be of use in this process of healing.
