RIP is not what happens after death. The afterlife is generally full of joyful activity.
It is common at funerals and memorial services to pray that the deceased may Rest In Peace. This is a note of respect and sympathy towards those who may have suffered long or painful illness or a stressful existence.
However, most of us do not have lives of suffering throughout, unless our conduct has led us into had ways. Those will have to be atoned for, if our conscience gives us no peace until we have made reparations and improved our attitude. But generally, after a short period of rest and recuperation, the deceased will have a far more eventful life than they had on earth, with a more active mind and a lighter body, and a whole new world to explore. Rather than resting in peace, they will be off meeting old friends, joining groups of people to take part in activities which interest them, or carrying on with the skills and talents they had on earth.
This is what we read in accounts given to Ruth Mattson Taylor by her deceased father, Pastor A.D. Mattson, her husband Hal and by the medium's husband, Edward Tweddell, who had worked as Radar specialist for Air Chief Marshal Hugh, Lord Dowding during the Battle of Britain. It was during that time that Dowding met Edward's wife, Margaret Flavell, and finding out that she was a medium, he was able to employ her psychic skills to get in touch with missing or dead fighter pilots. Now, almost fifty years later in 1989, both Edward and Hal came through to talk about their busy lives in the spirit world. Hal had died of congestive heart failure on January 11, 1989, and Edward had died five months earlier in August, 1988.
Ruth first gives us an account of how her husband Hal made initial contact with her about two weeks after his death. One morning she found that the light had been turned on in the bathroom, the security system was turned off, and the radio was tuned to another station, when she turned it on, a station Hal had frequently used.
Ruth writes: ''Smiling with relief and joy, I returned the dial to its usual place. The mysteries of the morning were solved. Only Hal would have set the radio dial on that particular station, and it was Hall who had switched the bathroom lights on and the security system off. I was convinced of it. It was his way of reassuring me that he was indeed alive and well in the life beyond.
I sensed on that January morning that this was only the beginning. The time would come when Hall would be able to contact me in a more meaningful way. I was right. When he had adjusted to living on the astral plane, he made contact with me to tell me about some of his experiences there. I know it was Hal, because I sensed the nuances of his personality and also because he mentioned several very evidential things. He spoke of musician friends who had died and were now with him and forming bands so that they could play together. For many years, Hal had been a professional musician. He had played with some prominent jazz groups and other ensembles of the big band era. After he became a radio and television producer, he continued to play the double bass as a hobby, first with the Westchester Symphony in New York, and later with the Community Orchestra of the Portland Symphony. He also mentioned bringing his beloved Voigt and Geiger double bass into being, (in the spirit world). Having it, he said, made him feel that he was truly in Heaven. That double bass was almost a part of him when he was on earth, and I think he regretted leaving it almost as much as leaving his family. I had been given special instructions for seeing that it got into good hands when he was gone
In addition to being a fine musician, Hal was a composer and an arranger for a number of the bands he played with......He says he is now composing music to be used in healing centres on the astral plane. Evidently it's not all work and no fun where he is now. There is also a great deal of laughter, Hal says, and he still appreciates a good joke and finds a humorous twist to many things. This is very evidential.
Our family had four delightful dogs over the years.. Hal mentions playing with them when he isn't involved with other activities. He also speaks of being with Edward, Margaret's husband, who died a few months before him. On earth they had both enjoyed working on inventions, and it seems that they still do. His message, through Margaret's mediumship, brought me much comfort and reassurance.''

Hal's message.
''Ruth, I'll try to give you a picture of these realms from my own perspective, and it will differ a bit from A.D.'s account. My areas of activity are different from his, and I think people might also like to know what I, as a musician, am experiencing here.
It's been a great joy to find old friends such as George Barnes, Bud Freeman, Norm Schroeder, and others, and we get up wonderful jazz groups together. People who were jazz enthusiasts on earth come to hear us play, and there is a great sense of happiness and comradeship in our gatherings.
Without too much difficulty, through the power of thought, I created (my bass again), and I can tell you it was probably one of my greatest rewards here. I truly felt I was in Heaven when that double bass came into being. Our tables, chairs and other objects are as solid to us as yours are to you on the physical plane. The vibrations of our created objects here correspond to our own vibrations, so we experience solidity when using those objects, just as you do on earth.
I haven't confined myself to jazz music. There are small groups here who perform in hospitals and healing centres. The music we play there produces vibrations that heal both the astral body and emotions. This is a very special use of music here, and one I am trying to learn more about.
I have also been doing some composing. I learn what symptoms need to be treated, then compose music to use for specific ''illnesses'' or needs. This area is so extensive that I could spend my whole Hal incarnation here being involved in it. I'm also, for sheer inspiration and enjoyment, playing a lot of classical music. The symphony orchestras we can join are indescribable. Every instrument ever used by man is part of the magnificent sound produced. The Valley of Praise is where we go to participate in this type of music, and there are always great audiences to hear us. Their response to our playing generates enormous energy, and, in a sense, it seems as if the whole universe reverberates with the sound from there.
All is not serious up here. There is much joy and laughter, and I haven't lost my sense of humour. I can still appreciate a good joke and a funny twist to many things.
I'm frequently close to you on your level, and I'm still helping you in many ways. I know you're aware of this, but I'm not around you all the time. When I'm not, I'm usually enjoying music, playing with our dogs, (evidence that our pets survive, and live on with us), or participating with Edward in our inventions. Edward and I are studying how to manipulate our ''matter'' here to interact on your more dense plane This is a big challenge, and we've had a great deal of enjoyment from studying and experimenting in these areas.''

Hal and Edward were not beyond practical jokes over there, and over a two-year period, they managed to produce a kind of astral black paint, which one day they sprayed on Ruth's freshly polished and waxed car, much to her consternation. But the next day, they dissolved their paint, leaving the car spotless again. Rings were moved around, a rotten cucumber was apported from the refrigerator to the car for a time, and other paranormal activity took place around the house, in a spirit of fun, and to provide evidence that they were still around.
The most important lesson we can learn these messages and activities from the other side is to live our life here on earth in readiness and expectation of continuing our interests beyond death. The more we are able to acquire here, not in wealth and possessions but in knowledge, skills and interests, the better prepared we will be for our future life, where we shall not be 'Resting in Peace !'
