Book Review: The New Book of Goddesses & Heroines by Patricia Monaghan published by Llewellyn Worldwide.
With photographs from The Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, this book is a tour de force that every art historian should have in their book collection. There are 1,500 notable references of female divinities from Australia, Africa, another and South America, Asia and Europe. Presented in alphabetical order with many photographic and other illustrations, this isa definitive collection of the female deity across all time. The author, Patricia Monaghan is a pioneer of women’s spirituality, and has added to her vast knowledge of this topic contributions from many other leading figures of the Goddess Movement.
In addition to the general information on these goddesses and heroines, there is a section on Symbols, Names and Feasts and an extensive bibliography. Highly recommended.
